You know you heard Him.
It may not have been in an audible voice, but you know within your heart that He had placed this dream there. You feel like He is calling you to step out in faith and do it.
But almost as soon as the confidence of His calling is felt, the barrage of doubt enters.
There’s no way this could actually be what God wants you to do. There’s no way that He would call you to do it. You know there has to be someone better, more talented, more qualified.
And so you start wasting time by questioning God. You become stagnant and want to play it safe.
If this scenario is resonating with you, don’t despair. This is a tactic of the enemy since the beginning of the Old Testament.
In the book of Exodus, God calls Moses to lead His people out of Egypt. “Now go, for I am sending you to Pharoah. You must lead my people Israel out of Egypt. But Moses protested to God, ‘Who am I to appear before Pharaoh? Who am I to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt?” Exodus 3:10-11 Moses continues to protest every time God reassures him of his calling. Then Moses begins to tell God of the reasons why God has chosen the wrong person for this assignment. “But Moses pleaded with the Lord, ‘O Lord, I’m not very good with words. I never have been, and I’m not now, even though you have spoken to me. I get tongue-tied, and my words get tangled.’” Exodus 4:10
Moses eventually asks God to send ANYONE else to do this! Doesn’t that sound familiar many times? We are telling God about all our short-comings and asking Him to choose anyone else in the world to fulfill the calling He has placed for us. But God wants to use us.
- God is with us and has a plan. All throughout Exodus 4, God explains to Moses exactly what he is going to do and how God is going to perform miracles through him. All he has to do is be obedient and follow God’s instructions. God had the entire thing laid out and ready to go and would be with Moses every step of the way.
- God created each of us with a purpose. When Moses stated that he wasn’t an eloquent speaker, God rebuts with the proclamation that He created Moses. “Who makes a person’s mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak, hear or do not hear, see or do not see? Is it not I, the Lord?” Exodus 4:11 God created each of us with a purpose and calling that He can use for His glory if we will just be obedient to him.
- God will bring others to support us. Even though Scripture states that it made God angry that Moses kept arguing about his inadequacy, God did supply Moses with the support he needed to fulfill his calling. God told Moses to go and find Aaron and he would help him speak the words that were needed to lead the people out of Egypt. The same is true today. God will surround us with people who can support us in our callings, join our team, and build us up to fulfill our purpose.
Moses and Aaron followed God’s plan and led the people out of slavery and out of Egypt. Despite Moses’s hesitations and feelings of inadequacy, God was able to use him for a mighty purpose. Don’t forget that the Creator of the universe can do the same for you. If He has laid a calling on your heart, do not let the enemy steal the opportunity to be used by Him.
If God asks us to do something, He will get the job done. He can use our strengths, weaknesses, confidences, and struggles for His glory.
