While this might seem like a simple question, it is actually a profound quote by a very famous star. Charlie Brown actually gets credit for using this question in one of his famous lines. Charlie Brown, the guy that many times seems like the least to be thankful. The guy that many times is viewed as the “woe is me” type. But even Charlie Brown knew he had much to be thankful for. And when we truly sit back and consider our current lives; not our current circumstances or current crisis, we will be thankful.
In Psalms 106:1-2, the psalmist says,
“Give thanks to the Lord for He is good! His faithful love endures forever. Who can list the glorious miracles of the Lord? Who can ever praise Him enough?”
When I sit back and think of all the things I have to be thankful for, I would never have the room to write it all. Many of you would feel the same. What if I just answered Charlie Brown’s question? What if I wrote down just everything I was thankful for today? Just today . . . here is my list of thankfulness:
Thankful for two beautiful and healthy kids who both have a relationship with Jesus.
Thankful for having accessibility to the Word and being able to study it in my own language and grow daily.
Thankful for friends who I don’t see nearly often enough or talk to nearly as much as I would like, but are there for me.
Thankful for family and friends who will call, text, post and much more to show their love for me and to remind me that they are praying for me.
Thankful for parents who are amazing Christian examples and would literally give of their time, talents, and basically the shirts off their backs to help others.
Thankful for my job and the relationships it has provided me. For being able to work in a place where I can share my faith daily and that my job consists of encouraging others in their faith.
Thankful for heat, shelter, peace, bed, television, computer, running water, food; man, this list could go on and on.
Thankful for a Savior who provides unexplainable peace in situations that should cause so much pain. And Who loves me despite my faults and failures.
So much more to be thankful for, even just today!
Why is it that we so easily forget how much we have to be thankful for? Why do we allow the circumstances in our lives, the uncertainties and the doubts, cause us to question the blessings we have? As you enter into this Thanksgiving holiday, block off a time to reflect. If all you had to be thankful for was just that day, what would you list? If you are like me, the list gets overwhelming really fast and the thought of listing all my blessings for a week, month, year, or lifetime would send me to my knees with tears. Who can list the glorious miracles of the Lord? Who can ever praise Him enough? No one.
