Sometimes we doubt how God can use us for His Kingdom. Maybe you look at a corporate worship service and you know you weren’t called to stand before the people and speak. God didn’t give you a voice or talent to lead in worship. Maybe you haven’t felt God’s nudge to leave the country as a missionary. And so, you start to wonder if God really only uses the “professionals?”
But God wants to use it all. He made you uniquely “you” to complement His Kingdom and ultimately bring Him glory.
In Exodus, God is giving Moses the instructions for constructing the Tabernacle. The Tabernacle would be the place set aside for the Israelites to gather to worship the Lord, the place where the Lord would reside and live among them. Starting in Chapter 25, the Lord gives Moses seven chapters worth of instructions regarding the construction of the Tabernacle and all the details for the use of it. In Chapter 31:2-6 we see the Lord tell Moses who He has set aside to create this beautiful meeting place and in Chapter 35 Moses shares the news with the people.
“Then Moses told the people of Israel, ‘The Lord has specifically chosen Bezalel son of Uri, grandson of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. The Lord has filled Bezalel with the Spirit of God, giving him great wisdom, ability, and expertise in all kinds of crafts. He is a master craftsman, expert in working with gold, silver, and bronze. He is skilled in engraving and mounting gemstones and in carving wood. He is a master at every craft. And the Lord has given both him and Oholiab son of Abisamach of the tribe of Dan, the ability to teach their skills to others. The Lord has given them special skills as engravers, designers, embroiderers in blue, purple, and scarlet thread on fine linen cloth, and weavers. They excel as craftsmen and designers.’” Exodus 35:30-35
God had gifted Bezalel and Oholiab with expertise in crafts to be used for His glory and to ultimately assist in constructing the Tabernacle.
God has given us talents and abilities that we can use for His kingdom. What skills, talents, and abilities has God given you? Maybe you always thought that there was no way it could be used by Him? Bezalel and Oholiab may have thought the same. When we look at the scope of Christian ministry, we often place God in a box. We look at services on Sunday or speakers online and believe that God can only use “those types of people” for His Kingdom.
Can you paint? God can use you.
Can you sew? God can use you.
Can you use technology to create? God can use you.
Can you write? God can use you.
Can you cook? Fix things? Play sports? Design?
God has gifted all of us with special talents and abilities. And He can use it all for His Kingdom. We don’t have to box Him in. Look at creation and how artistic our Creator is. He wants to use every single talent, trait, ability, and gift to draw others to Him.
God has given us talents and abilities that we can share with others. Not only did God bless Bezalel and Oholiab with these talents, but it also states that they had the ability to teach their skills to others. We are not to keep our talents and giftings to ourselves. God wants us to share them with others and teach them! Maybe by sharing our talents and abilities with others we are able to release a freedom for them to use theirs as well? We can take the giftings that God has given us and multiply their impact by sharing and teaching others. You never know what Kingdom impact you can have by teaching others to paint, cook, can, or garden.
God wants to use it all. God didn’t just call a few ”professionals.” He wants us all. How will you honor Him with who He has made you to be?
