My family LOVES to ski! We love going to an area each year that has LOTS of snow so we can ski and relax…do a little snowmobiling and drink way too much hot chocolate! This year, we took our first trip to Breckenridge, Colorado…and let me tell you, it has been our favorite ski destination to date.
Since this was our first trip, we did not see everything that Breckenridge had to offer, obviously…but we DID see a lot and I have lots to share with you to help you plan your trip to Breck in the winter!
Let’s do a little walk through (with lots of pictures, of course) of our most recent one week trip to Breckenridge!
First of all, we went the week after Christmas…which is definitely considered the busiest time of the year…and I believe it. It was pretty crazy! BUT…even in saying that, it didn’t hamper us. Most of the time, it wasn’t even noticeable. The BIGGEST issue to us was the line at the base of the mountain for the ski lift. Once you got on it the first time, you could maneuver around and not have to come down to the base again until you were finished, but this first time of the day was a boogar! *Note- do be prepared to pay the price for the busiest season…because it is not cheap!*
We stayed at Trails End Condominiums at BASE 9, and it was literally the perfect location! I think Base 9 or Base 8 would be good for us, but I do prefer Base 9. Do your own research to find the right place for you!! We looked alot! Our condo was a ski in/ski out condo that was only about a 5 minute walk into town. We never even had to get the car out to go eat every night! We just bundled up and walked! The closest grocery was 2 miles away…but because of the crowd, it took 30-45 min to get there some nights when we went!
Breck (as the locals call it) is literally the most GORGEOUS town ever, especially in the winter with all the snow and lights. It truly felt like you were in a Hallmark movie!
Now, WHY did I like skiing here better than anywhere else we have been?
Well, what I liked the most (and Brandon also) was the variety of slopes. They had tons of green and blue…and they were longer and easier to maneuver than many places we had been. You can spend a lot longer ON the slopes and not in line for the ski lift! I stick to green, but I can do blue too…my problem is- I go too fast LOL…so green for me! I loved the green slopes and the variety they offered, but I will also say that they had LOTS of harder ones too, for those that are more advanced, like my husband and kiddos! Brandon and Eden even went on some blacks!
Overall, I just felt like the entire area was just extra easy to get around while skiing and made the entire trip more fun, because there was always a variety of slopes to do. You didn’t get “bored”.
Advice: MAKE RESERVATIONS to EAT a few weeks ahead of time, especially if you go during that time of year. We ate at some great places, but some of the ones we really wanted to try were booked solid and did not take walk ins. We all kept saying that we for sure wanted to make sure we made reservations next time!
Some of the places we enjoyed eating while there:
Salt Creek Steakhouse (This was OUR FAVORITE for sure…and we will eat there again when we go back…in fact, we ate there twice this time!)
Luigi’s Pizzeria (This pizza was so so good!)
Kenosha Grill (This place was good…but not excellent, in my personal opinion)
The Blue Moose (We finally ate here on our last day before we headed to the airport, and it did not disappoint! They had the BEST breakfast!!!! I will definitely go back. I had been wanting to go all week, but we never got up for breakfast- we always just went straight to ski first thing in the morning!)
Truthfully, there was nothing about Breckenridge that I did not like. Everything was in reasonable distance, which made it super easy to walk! There was plenty of shopping, tons of food and the most beautiful scenery you can imagine.
Oh yeah, and while me and Eden were walking back to the condo one night, we ran across the cutest trolly serving crepes! It was called Main Street Station TROLLEY CREPES! I swear it felt like walking into a Hallmark movie. The snow was coming down, the red trolley was sitting there serving hot chocolate and amazing crepes, and they had a fire pit right beside it so you could enjoy your crepe in warmth. I texted Brandon and told him and Blaize that they needed to come over where we were, so they did…and a nice gal that happened to be there took our pic! I would most certainly find that trolley again!
Now, onto snowmobiling! We took the Prospector Tour with White Mountain Snowmobile Tourin Leadville, CO- which was about an hour or so from Breck…but the scenery to there was gorgeous, so it was a beautiful drive!
We had a great time on the ride, although I will say that I wish there had been more adventure. Most people would probably love the ride, and it was FINE…it was long and had lots of pretty scenery- but it was just not what I love. I love to go fast and have a lot more adventure! HA.
This tour was all that was available because of how busy everything was, so it was perfect for our group…but if I go again with JUST our family, we will book a different tour. Either way, we always love to snowmobile, so it was still a winner! I would also want to book something with a little better scenery. I feel like that sounds odd, but the snowmobiling in Wyoming that we did last year just took the cake for me. It was INSANELY gorgeous, so this didn’t hit that mark for me!
I give Breck a 10/10 for SURE! We already have our next trip scheduled, and we cannot wait to make this an annual (or even more) trip! I believe you will love it as much as we do!

I’m not sure of the timeframe….but we’re you there during the Ice Sculpture festivities…..amazing talent what people can carve!!! I live in Colorado and try to get up there often just for that….not a skier.
