Another day, another thrift store find! Y’all know I love shopping at thrift stores, and when I saw this gold jewelry box I thought, “Man, that thing has seen better days for sure!” That’s when I knew it needed rescuing! You won’t believe how it looks now!
For this “rescue” I used the following supplies:
- Thrift store jewelry box
- 8”x10” canvas board
- Scrapbook paper
- Waverly white chalk paint
- FolkArt One Décor Paint in Iced Turquoise
- Mod Podge
- Foam paintbrushes
- Sanding block
- E6000 glue
- Scissors
- Pencil
Below is a closer look at what colors I used. The Waverly chalk paint is perfect for projects like this! I purchased the turquoise color on sale at Hobby Lobby for a steal!
Although I am not a fan of the print on the front, the box itself is amazing! Can we all just take a minute to appreciate the intricate details?!!! I seriously LOVE it!
The inside has a mirror on top and a removable sectional piece at the bottom. I really like the gold, so I’m not going to paint the inside.
Of course, the first thing I did was wipe that sucker down! I gave it a good cleaning and let it dry.
Next, I painted a coat of white chalk paint over the entire outside surface except the glass in the center. Once it dried, I applied a second coat. I didn’t worry about getting paint on the glass, because it can easily be wiped off.
After wiping off any white paint remaining on the glass, I painted the glass with the Iced Turquoise paint. I was originally going to remove the glass and print, but there was not easy way to do it, so I decided to paint over it. The glass needed two coats of paint as well.
While the paint was drying, I traced the canvas on the scrapbook paper and cut it out.
I applied a layer of Mod Podge on the canvas and laid the paper on top. I pressed it down, smoothing out any bubbles under the surface.
Then I applied a light coat of Mod Podge on top to seal it.
Once the Mod Podge was dry, I used the sanding block to smooth down the edges.
Next, I took the sanding block and lightly went over the edges of the box. I loved how the gold peeked through with the distressing!
Finally, I applied the E6000 glue to the back of the canvas and glued it in the middle of the glass on top.
I love the finished look! Now I’m struggling to decide where to use it! It would be perfect to store remotes, earbuds, charging cords, etc in the living room. We are always losing track of those things! It’s pretty large, so it definitely has the capacity! Of course, it could always be used for jewelry. I just don’t know…where would YOU use it?
Next time you’re out thrifting, grab a jewelry box! I would love to see your creativity shine through!
Be sure to PIN this for later!

I love ❤️ all you do to thrift finds.
I have a question as why you painted the glasss
then covered all it with canvas?
Also where was the beautiful gold with the design?
I look forward to your answer.

That turned out lovely! I would use it to store my family’s medicine boxes. We have those little daily pill boxes that need a home where they can be “hidden.” I will have to go thrifting to see if I can find one!
