Have you ever been asked the question, “Do you know (fill in the blank with a person’s name)?” Typically, the response is answered with a “yes” or “no.” When you are asked this question, it is usually referring to if you know who a person is. So, if someone asks me if I know Beth Moore, then I would say, “yes.” My reasoning would be that I know her because I have read her books, completed her Bible studies, listened to her videos, and have seen her at conferences. But, unfortunately I don’t really KNOW Beth Moore.
It is one thing to have knowledge of a person, but it is another thing to really know a person. In the book of Job, Job faced a lot of hardship and opposition. As you read through the book of Job you see Job’s realness as he questions God. God had given Job numerous responses throughout the book. Job listened to God and began to realize that he had spoken pridefully throughout his communication with the Lord. Job had come to the realization that God was sovereign and in control. The last chapter of Job summarizes how far Job had come throughout his journey.
“Then Job replied to the Lord; “I know that you can do anything, and no one can stop you. You asked, ‘Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorance? It is I-and I was talking about things I knew nothing about, things far too wonderful for me. You said, ‘Listen and I will speak! I have some questions for you, and you must answer them.’ I had only heard about you before, but now I have seen you with my own eyes. I take back everything I said, and I sit in dust and show my repentance.” Job 42:1-6
I love verse five! “I had only heard about you before, but now I have seen you with my own eyes.” Before this, Job had knowledge of God, but he didn’t KNOW God. Now at last, after all he had gone through and all His intimate conversations with God, he truly knew God. It was no longer information; it was a transformation.
In a world with information at our finger-tips it is easy to know a lot about God and not really KNOW God. Are we educated beyond our obedience? It is easy to have all the facts, but no genuine faith. Do we really know the Savior that we serve? Sometimes it takes situations in our lives where we have to truly turn to God and have honest conversations with Him to push us to grow in our faith and develop a “KNOWING” relationship. Don’t just learn about God, KNOW God.

I’m reading the Bible through in a year for the first time ever through the Bible App. I have learned so much more about WHO God is than I ever have before! I’m a regular church attender, attend Bible Studies regularly, go to conferences often, but this reading the Bible in the app with a recap by Tara-Leigh Cobble is wonderful!
