Once upon a time, there lived a girl named Brooke. She lived in a humble abode outside the city limits of Mayfield, Kentucky with her husband and 2 vivacious little children. Life was grand…except for one thing. SHOES were taking over her entire living room! Everywhere she turned, there were SHOES, SHOES, SHOES. It was making Brooke crazy! How could two little miniature humans have so many shoes? And how is it that they are never in their bedrooms and always in the floor?
A solution was needed. But what?
Haha. Yes, this story sounds so silly…but in the midst of the humor, some serious frustration was truly taking place! Shoes were everywhere and needed to be contained.
While shopping at a local flea market type place, I happened upon this beauty! The second I saw it, I knew I wanted it to come home with me. I immediately saw what I had been wanting. SHOE STORAGE! Yippee!!! Those 2 beautiful drawers would hold countless tiny shoes! And guess what? It was only $20. Can you hear the celebration music?!
This piece was heavy, and I was by myself…so it took all I had to get it into the vehicle, but I managed!
When I got it home, I immediately started painting. I knew I had the perfect place in my living room for this, and I couldn’t wait to start using it.
I unscrewed the handles and set them aside…and then got out my trusty (you guessed it) Vintage Market & Design VINTAGE WHITE chalk paint. This is by far my favorite color because it goes with everything!
ALL I did with this piece was take my little Ole chip brush ($.50) and dip it a tiny bit into the paint and rub over the entire piece. I did NOT want full coverage. I only wanted a very light coating, so that it would have a distressed look with no actual distress.
I wish I had taken a picture of the painting process, but it seriously is that easy…so I am sure you can duplicate without my showing you a picture of me holding a paint brush!
After it dried and I put the handles back on (I used the originals), I placed it in my living room! I LOVE it!
I also love the shelving because I could put some of my baskets on it for even more storage. Who doesn’t love and NEED more storage?? (And aren’t those the cutest 2 kids??)
SHOES!!!!!!! This seriously holds no telling how many pair of little shoes! Plus, I put lots of mine in here. I only wear a size 6, so mine are quite tiny too 馃檪

You’re so smart! This is perfect repurposed for shoe storage….and much prettier than seeing a pile of them on the floor 馃檪

I love the colors you used in your singlewide! I stumbled across your blog on Pinterest while looking for budget friendly ways to decorate my singlewide. Ours is painted light grey also and has pops of aqua and yellow. I’ve only read a couple of your posts so far, but this one caught my attention because I also have two littles who’s shoes are constantly scattered across,my living room, and I noticed that you’re in Mayfield. I live in Murray! Small world! I’m definitely going to keep reading for more inspiration!
