Spray Paint. It has come a long way…let me tell you. Back in the day, when you thought of spray paint, you thought of cheap, runny, quick fix projects. That is no longer the case, my friends.
People use spray paint for numerous DIY projects, including painting furniture, old light fixtures, hardware, metal art, canvases, and the list could go on! It is easy to use and very durable. I love it, and truth be known, this will be a hack that will be VERY utilized in my life in the coming days as I prepare for a massive downsize while preparing to build my dream home! {Stay tuned…there is going to be some DIY craziness going on!}
Where am I going with all of this spray paint talk, you ask? Well, I love to go to thrift stores! I am especially smitten with random picture frames… or framed art…basically, frames in general. If it has a cool look and a cheap price tag, I take it home. I always know I can use it somewhere. I am also smitten with gallery walls! You probably figured that out if you follow along with my blog much- as I have already shown my living room wall, along with Eden’s fun and girly gallery wall! I just love the endless possibilities and how you can do it all on such a cheap budget. Recently, I had accumulated quite the pile of thrift store frames. They were all shapes, sizes and colors. {I also had 1 or 2 more that are not pictured, that had been painted previously.}
As you can see, I had quite the variety of sizes, colors and textures!
In the coming month, we hope to have our current home on the market to sell…and there are still some areas that just haven’t been “staged” for the sell. We have one space that is truly a fabulous space in general, but literally nothing has been done to it in the form of decorating. I wanted something on the large blank canvas of a wall, but I didn’t want to spend much money, so I didn’t. I bought 2 cans of spray paint, and took the frames that I had accumulated and went to work. I wanted a neutral wall, so I went all white! I simply laid out all of my frames on a drop cloth in the yard and sprayed them all down. I put 2 coats on. I allowed the first to dry before putting the second.
This is the spray paint I used:
Then…voila! I had all white frames that I used to create this one of a kind, cohesive gallery wall!
I will admit, it is pretty bland {I really like some COLOR in my home}- but I do love all of the white. I love it because can re-use these frames ANYWHERE in my new home, and I had MAYBE $15 total invested in the whole wall {And that is on the high end}. I don’t like hanging everything straight, so I always throw some loops and have things hanging kinda crazy. I know that look doesn’t appeal to everyone 🙂
What do you think? Isn’t it amazing how you can turn outdated eye sores into a cohesive gallery that has the looks of expensive wall decor? To me, it doesn’t get much better than that. I mean, honestly, the possibilities are endless. You can do a wall with spray painted frames of all colors or any other color. I hope to do one in our future playroom using lots of vivid colors! This is just the tip of the iceberg, folks! 🙂
Tell me- doesn’t a fun and easy project like this make you want to rush to your local thrift store to snag up all of those fun frames??

The wall looks beautiful Brooke ?? one thing I would ask and that is how do u hang them slanted?
Brooke Riley says
Hey Denise! Thank you very much! The frame that is hanging crazy is actually just hanging on a nail in the corner of the frame. There is no hardware or anything 🙂 Same goes for all of the other wop-sided frames on my different walls!

Thanks so much, Brenda! I am like you- no professional framing for me 🙂 Aren’t frames the best decor???

Love your frame wall I was at a garage sale and there were 7-8 different frames and I found a quilt that was old but had all the right colors to match my new bedroom paint. I’d been trying for weeks to find the coliseum I wanted. I was unable to repair the quilt enough to use it on the bed. ? I had the idea to frame pieces of the quilt. I did three large frames spray painted off white and hung them above the bed like a headboard. Still had enough good quilt left so made some throw pillows for the bed. Ties in nicely.
