It may only be July, but that certainly doesn’t mean it is too early to start thinking about your fall decorating. In fact, it is the perfect time to start planning! Until last year, I am not sure that I had ever decorated at all for the fall season. Why? Well, let me be honest with you. There was a time in my life when I didn’t really understand how to think “outside the box”. It is hard for me to even believe that now, because I LOVE to be out of the box–but alas, there was a time when I was kind of stuck inside when it came to seasonal decorating, especially fall.
You see, back in the day- I always felt like orange, red and brown were the only fall colors to decorate with, and in all honesty, those colors didn’t really match my decor or home style…therefore, I decided to not decorate for that season. Because I never decorated for it, I never had any decor or any desire to decorate for any season other than Christmas {which I have always LOVED!} Well, over time, I have learned a thing or two- and just in case you are stuck where I used to be, I want to encourage you to think outside of that box and see things a little differently. Now, if you love those traditional colors, GO FOR THOSE COLORS, by all means! Do what you love! Be you! But, if you are like me and you want something a little different this fall…a little something that matches your home style more closely, then soak up this post and run with it. Be inspired!
I have gathered up some different pictures that have inspired me this fall as I think ahead to how I am going to decorate for the season. I have already started gathering things here and there and planning out my color scheme and DIY projects to share on here, so I wanted to share what I have in mind this year!
I knew I wanted to stick with blue, gray, green, white and hints of some yellow possibly this year…so when I saw this post by Blue I Style, I was smitten immediately. While these colors are not the EXACT shades that I will probably go with {I want a much lighter aqua for sure}, they do set the stage for the direction I will be heading in my own home.
I loved the shade of aqua in this picture, along with the rustic touches of the twig pumpkin and branches. It is one of those touches that will automatically flow with the look of my current home and not feel totally out of place, which I like for this fall season.
This rustic tin can is just gorgeous! I love rust, in general {weird??}, but turquoise rust is amazing! I can picture something like this holding branches or pretty fall flowers for a centerpiece with white pumpkins surrounding it!
Anybody out there still stuck thinking pumpkins have to be orange?! Look at these gorgeous green and white pumpkins by Confessions of a Serial DIYer! I am totally in love…and I can totally picture some light aqua pumpkins in the mix…and some apothecary jars full of mini white/aqua pumpkin, acorns and ghords! How cute?!
This picture of an old truck, taken by Mark Hayes is the epitome of fall. This color combination is gorgeous together, and just by looking at this picture- I get excited about bringing this look into my own home.
My home has tons of gray. As soon as I laid eyes on this picture, I fell in love. The grays and aquas are pulled together beautifully, and it has just enough fall without being over the top. It is just gorgeous how Amy from Atta Girl Says聽used those lanterns to house her mini pumpkins. What a great idea. This is just one picture from her Fall Home Tour, so be sure to check out all of the others. It is truly special.
I would print this picture and put it in a frame. I absolutely love it. The gorgeous yellow leaves against that beautiful aqua cabin are just stunning. SO much fall inspiration in this picture.{I found this picture on Tumblr and could not trace it’s original source.}
This white painted pumpkin with the crystal knob by Kristy with Robb Restyle hits the nail on the head for my home style. I love me some white, and I love me some crystal knobs. I will definitely be trying this one! A little rustic glam would mix in perfectly with the look I am going for this fall.
I thought this was a quirky little pumpkin from Northern Cottage, and I loved the color- but I also loved that some of the original orange was showing through. I think just a tiny speck of orange mixed into my color pallet would look very pretty!
No matter your style or the color of your home, think outside of the box this fall. Find inspiration in the things that you love. Create a color scheme that works for YOUR unique style and go with it. There is no one style that fits everyone. Decorating is not one size fits all. We all have different likes and dislikes. Do what you love and what fits your personality. Have fun with it this year! Get creative and Be inspired.
