For anyone who is new to this blog, 2 years ago, my husband and I bought a foreclosure. This foreclosure is the home that you see all of the many pictures of each week, but there are still a few rooms you have yet to see. After 2 years you would think that one could get themselves together enough to finish everything, but for me, that has just not been the case! I am happy to say, though, that I have FINALLY finished my office space! Let me start off by saying that this space has actually been through 2 re-fabs. The first one just never made sense, and I could never come to grips with my color choice…so I finally changed it, decided what I truly wanted the space to be…and bam…finally done!
First, let’s look at a few lovely pictures of when we first bought this house!
YIKES. I don’t know if you can tell, but the windows were pretty much falling out, the walls are…well, you can see, and everything was just disgusting. It is amazing how awful this house was when we first bought it.
Oh Lord, help me!
So, after we bought the house, we replaced windows, stripped wallpaper, painted, tore out carpet, put in laminate hardwood, changed fixtures and receptacles, etc… and I decided I wanted this space to be a bright and airy yellow. The yellow was pretty, but it never did fit my “style.” I never liked it, but I hated to re-paint it, so I left it for a while {2 years}! I took this picture on my phone when I had this table for sale. I realized when I was looking back through all of my pictures that I could not find any others that I took of this room when it was yellow! {VERY bad blogger moment.} The color is pretty, but it wasn’t what I had in mind. {And yes, that rug and those seat cushions clashed big time!} This room is situated directly off the kitchen. Basically, when you come through my front door- you see straight into this room through the living room and kitchen. It is a shame it took this long to spruce it up!
And here is the office NOW:
You may remember this chest from my Dear John post 🙂 I seriously LOVE this piece!
The cool thing about this office is literally everything was pretty much DIY’d. This filing cabinet was a $5 accidental yard sale find. With a little paint, it was good to go. Simple, but practical.
I love the ceilings in this space. They were actually already like this, so we didn’t have to change a thing, except to clean them.
I love that large industrial R from Hobby Lobby! $15..what a deal!
This desk is another makeover from a Facebook for sale site. With a little TLC and some distressing, it was good to go. I actually REALLY like the way it turned out. I do wish it had more storage, so it may not be a forever piece, but for now…I am just glad to have a desk!
Well, this chair is one that my husband brought home one day from a NWTF {National Wild Turkey Federation} banquet. When he brought it home, I was like, what the heck did we need this random chair for? It did not go with anything, and we had nowhere to put it. BUT…it fits this little space pretty good now, so things are good 😉 I tried to soften it up by using pillows and a throw! It is a pretty masculine piece.
This hello pillow is actually just a pillow cover from Hobby Lobby. It was like $4. Crazy deals they have there!
Of course, no office is complete without your babies! These pictures are old, but they are still some of my favorites. So sweet, those two…
And in case you have been noticing this awesome jute rug- it was an Overstock.com find. I love to shop there for rugs! {not an affiliate}
Well, what do you think?? MAJOR difference from start to finish, eh? Do you like the paint color choice? It is Valspar Organic Shale.

Absolutely stunning! I can’t believe what it looked like before! Was it half painted?
Brooke Riley says
It was partially painted, partially wallpaper and partially who the heck knows. I have never seen anything like it. Thank you!!! 😀

Wow, what a difference! I adore the candle wall sconses.
I am just starting to sort my home office too – this is a mammoth task – so I started small by making over my office chair. Now I just have to muster up the energy to get cracking with the rest.

Thank you, Sam! It is amazing the difference in this room, no doubt. Pretty much 90% if this room was DIY pieces or auction finds, so it was a super fun room to makeover. I love the dark color, so I really enjoy being in there now 🙂 Good luck on your office!!
