When our team member, Mel, and her husband purchased a home that was built in the late 1990’s, we knew that the process of updating was going to be a lot of fun (as well as a lot of WORK)! You may have already seen her guest bathroom vanity makeover and now she has completed the whole project and it’s unbelievable! The house they purchased had quite a bit of updating to be done. This guest bathroom is located upstairs in the house and won’t likely get a lot of traffic, so they really wanted to save as much money as possible. You’re gonna see that small changes can make a HUGE difference!!! This “before” pic was taken from the appraisal and you can tell from this that they’ve got a big job on their hands!
The first (and probably hardest!!!!) part of the whole makeover was removing the wallpaper because IT WAS PUT ON TO STAY. Unfortunately, even though they used a steamer to help remove it, there was extensive damage to the drywall that had to be repaired. They contacted a professional and had the walls “skimcoated,” which is basically resurfacing the whole wall. This was the only “”professional” work they used and the biggest expense of the whole project at a few hundred dollars. You can see that the skimcoat made the walls look like NEW!!!
Mel picked up this watercolor shower curtain at Home Goods, but HERE is a similar one on Amazon! The light neutral color was was the inspiration for the rest of the decor! The bird print canvases were purchased at Kirkland’s a couple of years ago, but she’d never found the right spot for them. When she was looking for something to put on this empty wall, she found these and they were perfect. If these are no longer in stock, you can definitely find lots of similar options! HERE is one example I found in a quick search on Amazon!
One easy way to upscale your decor is by using cute decorative items like this white ginger jar to store bathroom necessities! Let’s face it, most bathroom items aren’t that attractive! Mel uses this to store her cotton balls! This is another one of those things she’s had for a while, but you can find them literally anywhere like THIS ONE on Amazon!
This lid was WORN OUT, so she grabbed a can of gold spray and freshened it right up! She used Rustoleum Universal Metallic Paint and Primer in the color “Pure Gold.”
She used that same spray paint to change the over-toilet towel rack from silver to gold to match the other gold accents. It’s crazy how a coat of spray paint can totally update the look of pretty much anything!!! Mel was able to complete this bathroom makeover for around $350.00 by doing the work herself and repurposing some older decor. This includes new faucet, mirror, shower curtain and rod, towel bars, and paint for the walls and vanity! Of course, this doesn’t include the cost of the drywall finishing, but hopefully you won’t have that extensive repair to have to complete! Did this project inspire you to try a makeover in your home? Let us know!!!
Don’t forget to pin for later!!
