How many of you have seen these wicker plate holders at the thrift store or a yard sale? They are pretty much everywhere and very easy to find! I’m always looking for news ways to repurpose everyday household items, and I have a really fun and cute project today using a wicker plate holder! Many people have used them as wall decor, but have you seen them used as an elevated tray? I am going to show you how to repurpose a wicker plate holder to be a decorative stand.
I used the following supplies for this project:
- Round wicker basket plate holder
- Silver candlestick – you will want a candle holder with a bit of weight to it
- Rustoleum hammered gold spray paint
- Rustoleum Painter’s Touch spray paint in Deep Forest
- E6000 glue
- Rubber gloves
First, let me ask you…have you ever picked up a can of spray paint because you just liked the color? You didn’t even know what you’re going to do with it, but you just had to have it? That was me with this green color. This color is really trending right now for fall, and I wanted in on the fun! Paired with this hammered gold, I thought it would be a fantastic combination!
These wicker basket paper plate holders are literally EVERYWHERE! They have been around forever!
For the first step of this transformation, I put on my gloves and spray painted the wicker basket with the green paint. After the top had dried, I flipped it over and sprayed the bottom as well.
Next, I sprayed the candlestick with the hammered gold paint. This Rustoleum spray had great coverage!
After everything had dried, I brought the pieces inside to assemble the decorative stand.
I applied E6000 glue around the top perimeter of the candleholder and pressed the basket down on top of it. Because the E6000 needed time to cure, I set a heavy candle in the center of the plate to apply pressure to the glue.
Once the glue had dried, the stand was ready to use! I am thrilled with the way it turned out! Mixing textures is so fun, and the basket and metal look really well together! I hope this inspires you to grab a wicker plate holder and get to crafting!
Be sure to PIN this fun idea for later!!!
