Mel purchased this jewelry chest (also called a jewelry armoire) from the estate sale of a longtime family friend. She had been wanting one to keep in her closet for some of her “everyday” jewelry, so this one was perfect and the fact that it had sentimental value was a bonus!
She definitely could have kept it as-is, but decided to use some leftover Sherwin Williams “Jasper Stone” paint from her guest bathroom vanity project that you can see HERE! She LOVED the color and since the vanity is upstairs and the jewelry armoire is downstairs, it won’t matter that they are the same!
The first item of business was to remove the hardware. Since she was wanting to keep the project cost to a minimum, she chose to keep it and spray for a quick update!
After removing all the hardware and giving it a good wash to remove any residue, she did a “scuff” sanding all over to help the paint adhere correctly. Whatever you do, DON’T SKIP THIS STEP!!!
She removed the sanding dust by using a tack cloth and then applied a good coat of Kilz 3 primer!
She used Sherwin Williams Pro Classic paint. It’s her favorite for trim and anything that will be used a lot because of it’s good adherence and durable finish! Isn’t this color fabulous?!?!
One coat covered the piece pretty well, but she applied a second coat to make sure it had the best coverage!
She soaked all of the hardware in a solution of blue Dawn and hot water to clean it well!
This spray primer was the only purchase she had to make! It was less than ten bucks, but super necessary to prevent the paint from chipping on the metal handles!
She had some leftover gold paint from another project that was a perfect color to refresh the handles!
After putting it all back together, the result is AMAZING!! Such a cute refresh and sooo easy to do!!!
The Jasper Stone color with the gold makes such a pretty combination!!!
She’s already got that thing filled up!!! If you like this makeover, you may also want to check out Brooke’s jewelry armoire makeover for more inspiration!!!
