Y’all know how much I LOVE decorating for Christmas! It’s my absolute favorite! I know some people prefer to stick with traditional decor, but I think it’s SO FUN to mix in whimsical pieces with traditional styles. I understand it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but maybe this craft will inspire you to mix in a little whimsy this year! While shopping at the Dollar Tree, I saw this jute wrapped wire, and I had an idea…spiral Christmas trees!!!
For this craft, I used the following supplies:
- Wired jute cord – Dollar Tree
- Square wooden base – Dollar Tree
- Assorted wooden beads – I purchased my mixture at Hobby Lobby and pulled out the neutrals
- Wire cutters
- Black chalk paint
- Sponge paintbrush
- Hot glue gun
- Sanding block
The first step is to stretch out the jute wire just slightly. You want the spiral to remain intact.
Next, I tightened the spiral at the end so the wire would be tapered like a tree top. I just used my hands to tighten the curl, but you could also use a cone shape as well.
I wanted the tree to be about 7-8″ tall. If you make it any taller, it will not be able to stay upright when you add the beads. I cut off the excess wire with wire cutters.
Now it was time to add the beads. I added a dab of hot glue to the end of the jute wire, so the jute would not unravel. It also helped the beads slide on easier. I strung the beads on the wire, alternating white and gold.
Because of the weight of the beads, you want to make sure that you space them out evenly to distribute the weight. This keeps the tree straight.
For the last bead at the top, I added a little hot glue to the inside of the bead.
Next, I painted the square base with black chalk paint.
After the paint dried, I used a sanding block to give it a little distressing.
Finally, I used a hot glue gun to secure the tree to the base.
How precious are these cute little trees?! I just love how they look like a little spring! What a fun addition these will be to my Christmas decor!?!
And….TA-DA!!! How stinking’ CUUUUTE?!?
Be sure to PIN for later so you don’t forget it!
