You don’t have to look very far to see that the color blue in decorating is EVERYWHERE! We had some cute chinoiserie napkins for inspiration, as well as some metal pumpkins from Dollar General and thought we’d jump on the bandwagon! Here is what we used:
- Chinoiserie napkins
- Paint (we used Apple Barrel White, Black, and Blue Kazoo and Folk Art Classic Green)
- Mod Podge
- Metal pumpkin stems from Dollar General
- Beaded frame we purchased a few years ago
- Re-Fabbed Branded Hot Glue Gun
- Re-Fabbed Paint Brushes
- Gold paint pen
This cute beaded decor had been used for a few years and was due a makeover! It made the perfect background for our project! We knew we wanted to use the napkin, but started with a coat of white paint to cover up the previous design! We found these pumpkin chinoiserie napkins on sale at the end of the season last year and have just been waiting to use them!
After the paint dried, we brushed on a thin coat of Mod Podge all over the inside of the piece.
Next, we removed the back layer of the napkin and pressed it onto the Mod Podge! You’ll want to be VERY careful because the napkins are VERY delicate and tear easily! If you love the look of chinoiserie, you may also love the Pottery Barn-inspired prints we created!
While we were letting the napkin dry, we also took a little gold paint and lightly brushed it on the beads to give it a little pizazz!!
Next up was painting the metal pumpkins. Always be sure to do a light sanding so your paint will adhere! These pumpkins had metal stakes in them, but with a little twist, they came right out!
We LOVE this gorgeous blue color! It’s soooo trendy and just a nice change from the traditional orange!
Of course the leaves on the pumpkin need to be green! We also used a black/white paint mixture to for the stem!
These pumpkins are so cute even before we do anything else!!!
We decided to take a little white paint and lightly brush it on the pumpkins to give them a little depth!
We used this handy gold paint pen to trace over the words on one of the pumpkins as an accent, because gold is DEFINITELY another trending color!!
Finally, we used the Re-Fabbed Branded Hot Glue Gun to attach the pumpkins to the background!
This turned out soooo cute!! We used a sponge to add a few dots to one of the pumpkins for some interest!
We love the way this turned out! It goes soooo good with all the chinoiserie that you see in today’s decor!! Let us know if you like these trendy colors or if you prefer to stick to the classics!!
Be sure to pin for later!!
