Little monogram tags can be found pretty much anywhere! I recently scanned the clearance section at Hobby Lobby and found a wooden “R” hanging tag. I snatched it up, knowing I could use it for something! Fast forward a few weeks, and I decided to make an adorable house to set on my shelf. Today I’m going to show you how to make a DIY house with a monogram using Dollar Tree supplies!
For this project, I used the following supplies:
- “R” monogram hanging tag – Hobby Lobby for only $0.29!
- Wooden house – Dollar Tree
- Waverly chalk paint in Peacock – Walmart
- Wooden stringing beads in white and neutral – Dollar Tree
- Burlap decorative ribbon – Dollar Tree
- Paintbrush
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun
First, I painted the house with this gorgeous peacock color chalk paint. Y’all know I LOVE colors in the teal family! I literally use that color for all seasons…it’s basically a neutral in my house!
Some Walmarts carry these small containers of Waverly chalk paint for a little under $2, and it’s the perfect size (and price point) for small projects!
While the house was drying, I decided to vamp up the monogram just a bit by adding some decorative wooden beads from the Dollar Tree.
This monogram was 90% off at Hobby Lobby!!!
Using a combination of both the neutral and white beads, I strung three on each side of the monogram, alternating colors of the beads.
After the house had fully dried, I used the sanding block to add a little distressing to the edges and front.
Next, I grabbed some burlap trim that I had from the Dollar Tree and hot glued it to the roofline of the house. I originally planned to leave it plain, but I thought the burlap would accentuate the roof and make it look more like a house.
Then, I tied the ends of the monogram tag, draped it over the top of the roof and hot glued the knot on the back of the house.
This was such a simple, quick and very inexpensive project, and it turned out SO CUTE! This will be the perfect little shelf sitter to add to my collection!
Don’t you just love scoring something great on clearance and then turning it into a project?! I would love to see what you have created from an awesome clearance find!
Be sure to PIN this idea for later!
