Hi friends! My name is Lacy from Lraedesign, and I am sharing a super cute and fun DIY “joy” sign that can be used for both Christmas and Winter decor! When I found these fun colorful bell picks at Walmart, I knew for sure that I had to get them! It was like love at first sight! Ha Ha! I have always been a fan of the bright teals and pinks, and I just happened to decorate our family Christmas tree this year in those colors as well. I haven’t decided if I am going to use this sign as a shelf sitter around my house or if I want to use it as my tree topper on our family tree! Maybe you guys can help me decide!
For this craft, you will need the following supplies:
- Wooden board or background of your choice
- Jingle bell picks – mine came from Walmart and I used two picks
- Faux snow
- Polyfil
- Mod Podge
- Raffia
- Hot glue gun
- Paintbrush for spreading mod podge
The bell picks I selected had two sizes of bells on them, so the first thing I did was remove all of the smaller bells from the stems. This will be the perfect number of bells needed to spell the word “joy.” Save the larger bells for another project.
Next, I used my paintbrush to apply Mod Podge all over the surface and tops and sides of my frame. Then, I took my faux snow and sprinkled it overtop of the Mod Podge. You can find this snow anywhere, but I believe mine came from Hobby Lobby. How fun is this looking already?!
Before gluing the bells down, I glued a small patch of Polyfil under each letter. Not only did this give the illusion of snow, but it also helped pad and secure the bells.
Then, using a hot glue gun, I glued the bells down on top of the Polyfil. Be sure to use plenty of hot glue so the bells are fully secured.
How precious is this sign?! The colors really pop against the white background!
After I had all of the bells glued on, I went back around the top and sides of my frame with mod podge and added a little more of the faux snow. I also sprinkled some of the snow over my finished sign just to add a little more sparkle! Let me tell you, faux snow can be so messy, but it’s so worth it!
Finally, I added a raffia bow to finish it off!
After playing around with my finished sign, I decided it looked perfect under my tree with a couple of bottle brush trees and a reindeer! What do you think? I am loving this look for sure! Will you be trying this fun DIY?
