I absolutely LOVED the look of this whimsical gingerbread house doormat from Anthropologie! However, the $50 price tag? For a doormat?? No thank you! Today we’re showing you HOW to recreate your own for just $7! Not only is it fun to make, but it also adds a personal touch that feels even more special when you’ve crafted it yourself! Let us show you how we did it!
here’s what you’ll need…

- paint brushes (check out my faves!!!)
- mainstays coir doormat
- thick bodied acrylic paint (I buy mine from hobby lobby!)
- folk art white paint
- we did not use a stencil brush, but would recommend one if you give this a try!
We grabbed some apple barrel white paint, thick bodied acrylic paint, and a couple of Re-Fabbed paint brushes to get started!
We thought about tracing it out with white chalk first, but decided to just go for it!
This coir material is harder to paint on than it looks! It definitely would have been better to use a stencil brush, but we went ahead and used what we had on hand.
After we traced it lightly, we went over it using the thick bodied acrylic paint to give it a more “finished” look!
Now it’s time for the fun part… the details!!!
Just let your creativity flow and have FUN with it!
That is literally ALL folks! Don’t forget to spray it with your favorite sealer to make sure the paint stays on well!
We did not copy the doormat exactly, but rather used it as a rough guide! It’s SO fun to add your own spin on it!
How FUN did this turn out?!? Do you prefer the $50 version, or our $6.98 version?! Let me know!
Be sure to PIN FOR LATER!
