As you know, I am a sucker for a good makeover! I love to see a piece of furniture transformed by the power of paint. This specific piece is no different.
I was at a women’s retreat for my church, when I decided to check my phone between sessions. {I made a conscious effort to not have my phone with me the majority of the time…but the slight addict in me had to check between sessions!} I had a text from one of my co-workers telling me about a yard sale that her in-laws were having. She said, “There are tons of great pieces of furniture that I know you could paint!” Oh man!! Music to my ears… EXCEPT, I was at a women’s retreat and wouldn’t get to go to the yard sale! Well, being the sweet person that she is~she sent pictures and prices of what they had, I told her I wanted pretty much all of it, and she got them and took them to her house for me! I was stoked.
This is one of the many pieces that I got that day…and let me tell you, it is one of my favorites. {Yes, you will hear me say the same thing about some of the others when I post about them. I can’t help it. They had some great things!}
Isn’t it a beauty?!
The detailing on this piece is just amazing. I couldn’t wait to get started on it. I decided to use Vintage Market & Design chalk paint in Sand. It is a soft gray color, and I really love it.
I took the hardware off to spray paint later…and here it is after its first coat. Pretty color!!
While this was drying, I took the hardware and spray painted them with Rustoleum’s Universal Hammered Dark Bronze (affiliate)! This stuff is UH-MAZING!
I painted one more coat, distressed the sides and corners just a tad, put the hardware back on and this baby was good to go!
I am very pleased with how this piece turned out. I wish I had a better place for a picture in my home, but this was the only place. Gray on gray isn’t ideal…but you get the idea!
What do you think of the transformation?
Put a Pin on it!

Brooke,
That looks great!!!! I am very impressed with it!!!! I would never have dreamed the handles would have turned out to look like that. FANTASTIC JOB! So many times I walk past pieces like that simply unsure of how they would turn out. Now I know! 馃檪

Good Afternoon Brooke, I have just discovered you blog, so I thought I would pop over and say hello to you.
I love this piece, as it is so unsual and with so much detail. How wonderful that your friend ‘tipped you the nod’ about the forthcoming yard sale.
Have a lovely weekend.
Best Wishes from England.

This is truly beautiful ! You are very gifted ! This has really helped me see some very “ordinary ” pieces differently ! I luv to give new life to old things but somehow always think much older if that makes sense – I’d always just pass over these types for being 2 new but I would absolutely use this ! Thank you for your inspiration !!!
Brooke Riley says
Thank you, Phyllis! I sure do appreciate your words! There is certainly beautiful in even the newer pieces. I hope you find you some good ones to fix up!

This is almost exactly the set of tables we bought when we got married 45 years ago! Neat to see it painted and updated!

Hi Brook, You are Amazing, I am so Inspired every time I watch. I get so many creative ideas from you. Someday I hope to visit your store and be able to meet you, I would also love to watch you do a project in person. I plan on moving south somewhere, so who knows.

You such an incredible inspiration to me. For Easter I have made 3 decorations. A wooden polka dot distressed bunny, with one of your bows of course. A wreath for my entrance. And a carrot patch sign what you did on a video I watched. I love how beautiful everything turns out. You are a blessing. 鉂わ笍馃檹
