I am so excited to be coming at ya with another furniture makeover. I truly never tire of seeing the power of some paint and how it can transform a piece! This one is one of those pieces that has been around since I got married. We got it at Fred’s {Do any of you know that store?!}. It is a value store similar to a Family Dollar or Dollar General, but it has more home decor pieces to choose from. When you are young and on a tight budget, those stores are a life saver! This little table was about $15.00, and it had storage and a nice little design. It has been with us for about 9 years now, and it is still going strong! It started out black, but I don’t have any of those pictures. I painted it tan about a year ago {and still not sure why, because it really never went good with anything!}, and this week I decided I wanted to give it another change! THAT is what I love about paint! You don’t have to get new, you can just change the existing!
Here is the pictures of the tan: {Not bad- but not what I wanted!} Gotta love the dirty floor! HA. I was in the middle of moving things around and cleaning!
I decided to paint it Agave by Waverly. It is a chalk paint that is sold at Walmart. I have had it for a while, and it seemed like a good fit for what I wanted. I painted it and then took sand paper to rough it up on the edges. When I had the table painted and sanded, this is what it looked like.
This isn’t the color I had in mind, but I knew that once I put my dark wax on, it would change dramatically…and that IT DID!
**Dark wax is awesome to “distress” and give an aged look to a piece, but always remember that it will dramatically change the existing color of your paint. If you are happy with the existing color, dark wax is not for you. Leave as is or add a clear wax to seal.**
This is the finished product! Do you love the color as much as I do?? I also added a crystal knob that I got from TJ Maxx. It was in a pack of 4 for just $4.99. What a bargain! I love the little “extra” that it added to the table.
This is perfect in our living room! I am so glad I painted it and changed it up a bit. What a difference!
Here they are side by side again for comparison!
I hope to get a tutorial made up soon for using dark wax. I get questions about that alot, so stay tuned 🙂
Pin for later!
