One thing I have learned over the past few months is that you NEVER know what the future holds. One minute you think you have everything figured out, and the next- you realize you have no clue! But guess what? There is another thing I also know-God ALWAYS knows, and His ways are always better. He is always working all things for our good. If you missed about us moving back to KY, read all about that RIGHT HERE to catch up!
So, even though this season has been different than I expected, I also know that I will look back and see His hand all over it. In the meantime, I wanted to share with you a little but of our transition period, because I think it will be fun to follow along!
You see, we sold our house in TN and our house in KY in a whirlwind, and we decided to move closeby to another town that we love, which is also where our kids school is…and is close to all the amenities! With the holidays and our stress load at a high, we wanted to lay low until we could figure out for sure where we want to truly “land”, so we are renting the cutest house!
Today, i just want to show you the “before” pictures. The bare bones.
This is the living room.
We have already pretty much made it a CHRISTMAS HOME (I know you aren’t surprised), but that will come soon! For now, take a little tour or our transition rental home!
It is super close to town, literally 1 minute LOL, so that’s convenient! I do miss the country, but I sure do love being so close to everything!
Nice and cozy! It’s not a working fireplace, but I do love that it is there and is in both rooms (the living and dining).
This is the dining area. The little window by the door goes to the kitchen.
Kid’s bedrooms on each side of the bathroom.
I have always loved older houses. They just have so much more character. I don’t know what this is for, but I just like it LOL
This is the master bedroom and my office area!
Master bathroom area (no bath, but I use the other one, so I am good! )Y’all know I can’t do without a BATHTUB!
Can’t wait to show you more soon! It is looking SOOOO cute!!!
It feels good to start feeling “settled” for a bit. It truly feels like we haven’t been in months, and even though this is temporary…it is home. Home for now…but home nevertheless…and I can’t wait to take you on this journey with us.
Make sure you are following along on Instagram too, because I share lots of behind the scenes over there all the time! CLICK HERE TO FOLLOW ON INSTAGRAM!

Hi,
I hope you enjoy the holiday season in your new older home!
I am sure someone has told you by now, but I think the little niche in the hallway is where the telephone set. As most people back then only had one telephone, it was usual installed in the central area of the house.
Enjoy you on Facebook and looking forward to reading more of your blogs!

This is a cute house and you will decorate it and make this house your home. The little cubby hole that you don’t know what it is? It is for a land line telephone. The opening underneath the shelf is where the telephone directory goes. God bless you and your family as you move along. He will always be where you let Him be.

You are inspiring to me. I am thinking of moving back to IN. from Florida. I am getting older and all of my children and grandchildren live in IN. I have thoroughly enjoyed my 10 years of retirement in FL., but feel I need to move back to be closer to my family. I can always rent something in FL. for Jan. and Feb. to be out of the colder weather. Thanks for giving me food for thought.
Brooke Riley says
I completely understand that. I know they would enjoy having you closer and the rental could give you the best of both worlds. Praying for you as you think through all of it!

The space in the wall is where people use to have their telephone and phone book.
Lisa Aultman says
Brooke, I think the little thing you like but don’t know exactly what it is is a telephone cubby. We had one in our first little home that was old like this one.
Rosalyn Beall says
Brooke, if you were referring to the niche in the wall, it was possibly a space for a telephone! Definitely not the phones of today, however. I couldn’t tell if your niche had a place where a phone cord would have been but definitely reminds me of one. There was one in an old house that a friend and I rented when we were in graduate school. We loved the charm of that house also.
GrannyL says
The little cubby in the wall looks like it was for a phone. The space under it was for the phone book. Depends on the age of the house to know if that is what it was used for.
Paula Camp says
That little space is where the telephone lived! Back when we were connected by a long cord, the phone sat on that little ledge and of course the BIG phone book was not far away!!
Paula White says
That cute little “thing” on the wall in the hall is for a rotary dial phone! Back in the day, everyone typically just had one telephone per household and it was usually located in the hallway so everyone could use the phone. I’ve seen lots of these in antique stores since no one uses them anymore. Makes a cute little shelf. Oh, the good ole days!
Karen Valenti says
That little niche is where the phone would sit, the slot below is for the telephone book!! Now you can figure out how old I am 😁
Gwen Hardin says
The rental house is so charming with so much character. I can’t wait to see how you decorate this cutie for Christmas. I believe that little white shelf in hall iwas used for a phone stand. I had one similar in a my very first house I owed. Thanks for taking us on this journey Brooke! I love Re-Fabbed! Big hugs from Texas p
