I went to work on a Tuesday and the main tree in my front yard seemed barren. I am sure there were some tiny buds on the limbs and some signs of life happening, but nothing I could easily see from first glance. On Wednesday morning when I went out to head to work, I saw a completely different tree. It was in full bloom with beautiful fuchsia petals, easily noticed by a simple glance. It was crazy to me to think about the difference one single day made. From the first day of not being able to see hardly any evidence of life at all, to the next day of seeing a full transformation.
Sometimes our life can get dark. Maybe you have been living in a barren, dark, and hard season. You have woken up every morning praying that God has moved in your situation in a positive way, but yet you are struggling to see any evidence of change happening. You begin to question if there will ever be the evidence of new life or a breakthrough in your circumstances. The darkness of winter has drudged on and made you start to doubt that spring is even coming. You have prayed, begged, pleaded for a change and from first glance it appears that it is still a long way off on the horizon.
But this is why as Christians we do not give up. We must continue to hold on to hope. The answer, the change, the light, can happen in an instant and when you least expect it. There is a line in the popular song, “Waymaker” that says, “Even when I don’t see it, You’re workin,’ Even when I don’t feel it, You’re workin,’ You never stop, You never stop workin,’” He is working in our lives even when we don’t see or feel the change yet.
In the book of Ecclesiastes it states:
“For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant and a time to harvest. A time to kill and a time to heal. A time to tear down and a time to build up. A time to cry and a time to laugh. A time to grieve and a time to dance. A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones. A time to embrace and a time to turn away. A time to search and a time to quit searching. A time to keep and a time to throw away. A time to tear and a time to mend. A time to be quiet and a time to speak. A time to love and a time to hate. A time for war and a time for peace.” Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
There is a time for everything. In order to have a morning, you have to have an evening. In order to truly see the light, you have to experience darkness. In order to see the growth of spring flowers, you have to have a dormant winter. We do not know when the morning will come, the light will shine, or the season will change. However, we cannot lose hope because we serve a faithful God.
“So let’s not grow tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” Galatians 6:9
