Have you ever been inspired by a paper napkin? While browsing Pop Shelf recently, I spotted some of the prettiest napkins! Gingham prints and the color green are both on trend for this spring, so when I saw these adorable napkins with gold scalloped trim, I HAD to have them! Did I have a plan for these napkins? Absolutely not, but they were coming home with me! It didn’t take long for me to get crafty! I have a super fun project today using these fabulous napkins and a metal chick from the Dollar Tree!
For this project, I used the following materials:
- Metal chick from the Dollar Tree
- Napkins from Pop Shelf
- Mod Podge
- White paint – I used Apple Barrel’s white
- Sponge brush
- Razorblade
- Scissors
This little metal chick was in the Dollar Tree Plus section for $3. It was covered in glitter and had a bow on its neck, but I saw potential for something more! It had great texture! The first thing I did was remove the bow and paint it white. Since I planned to decoupage the chick with the napkins, I didn’t want the yellow showing through too much. I allowed the paint to completely dry before moving on to the next step.
The green gingham napkins originally caught my eye, then I saw the coordinating magnolia floral napkins and bought those as well. I’m glad I did, because I used both in this craft.
When using paper napkins to decoupage, you have to separate the two layers of the napkin. After separating the napkin layers, I cut out the printed side.
Since I planned on using a different print for the wing, I applied the Mod Podge to the chick’s body, avoiding the wing. Then, I laid the napkin over the chick and pressed down lightly to ensure it adhered well.
After allowing the Mod Podge to dry, I removed the excess napkin around the chick. Then, I used the razorblade to cut through the napkin at the wing and tore off the floral print on the wing. I completed this step on both sides of the chick.
I LOVE how the texture is showing through the napkin!
Next, I repeated the same process for the wings…separated the napkin, applied Mod Podge and removed the excess paper after it dried.
How cute is this chick?! It looks nothing like it did before!
This project was so simple but gave this chick a whole new look! This could be used for just Easter décor or left out all Spring! Go find a napkin you love and decoupage something fun! I would love to see YOUR creation!

This is such a cute makeover with the gorgeous floral and gingham mixed together! Lovely color palette for Spring and Easter! Unfortunately I don’t have a Dollar Tree Plus section in any of my stores in FL but I did see a real similar piece in Dollar General so I’m going to try to recreate this one! Yay! 🐥
