Y’all, Dollar General is LOADED with fall goodness! If you haven’t been recently, get out there and check it out. It’s just starting to roll out, so you may have to check a few stores. There’s one on every corner here in Kentucky! I’ve been on a mission to create easy fall decor that I think you will love! Stacked books are so versatile for every season, and they make a perfect shelf filler for my built-ins or coffee bar. I picked up this cute little fall set, and thought I would “Brooke it up” just a bit. Come along with me as I give this little set a quick makeover…and I mean QUICK!
For this simple and speedy makeover, I used the following items:
- Fall book stack from Dollar General – only $5!
- Leopard print trim or ribbon – purchased from Hobby Lobby in the past
- Gold metal leaf ornament from Dollar General
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun
The leopard print ribbon is SO FUN! It’s not actually ribbon, but more like a trim. It came on a roll, but it’s thick and has a fur like texture. Again, it’s such a fun print that really packs a punch!
First, I wrapped the ribbon around the book stack and secured the ends with hot glue on the bottom. The ribbon was just a tad too wide, so I folded in the side of the ribbon just a bit and added a little hot glue. This made the ribbon band thinner, so the ribbon didn’t bump right up against the words. Always remember that you can pretty much adjust any ribbon width by trimming it or rolling it under to your desired width.
Next, I wanted to incorporate a little leaf ornament I found at Dollar General as well. These are so cute and lightweight! They are perfect for small projects like this one. I personally LOVED the gold, but it could easily be painted if you preferred another color.
Using the black and natural raffia from my Re-Fabbed raffia collection, I created a nice full bow to go on top of the leopard ribbon. I used hot glue to glue it down at a slight angle. I loved how the colors really complemented the leopard print! Leopard print is like a neutral in my house!
Finally, I glued the metal leaf on the top and tucked the twine under the raffia bow! Ta-da! How awesome does this look?! If you want to see how I created this look LIVE ON FACEBOOK, GO HERE!
This literally took less than 15 minutes from start to finish! I’m thrilled with how a few little changes can really make something pop and look totally different! This was so simple and FUN! I hope this inspires you to take ordinary items and make them YOUR OWN with just a few additions! Happy FALL!
