This is one of those posts that are actually 2 in 1! More for your money today! 馃槈
Several months ago, I wrote a post about all of my projects in need of attention, and in that post I mentioned several frames that we bought at a local auction. I bet we bought 70+ frames at that auction for nearly nothing! It was a photography studio downtown that was going to be moving, and wow…what a fun auction! {Now the frame overload probably makes sense!} I have slowly but surely been putting聽some of those frames to good聽use, and this is one of them.
If you read my post about Eden’s gallery wall, then you know that I have slowly been getting her room together. This is no overnight project for me. I work on it when I can, but I am truly not in a “hurry”. Life is crazy, and trying to get a 4 year old’s room fixed up is not as easy as it sounds! HA! BUT…I have been working, and what I want to share with you today is another piece of wall art that has been completed.
This is the auction frame before any attention was given to it! Is it fabulous or what? Just not the color I needed.
This frame is awesome. I am not even exactly sure of the size, but it is very large. We didn’t give hardly anything for it, and like most every single frame we bought, it has no glass. I loved the beautiful detailing and the size, but the color was not going to work for E’s room. I mean, we have pinks, whites, purples and about every other girlie color going on in there–not black and gold!
So…I spray painted it 馃檪 People, if you have never spray painted frames, or anything, for that matter…you are missing out! It never ceases to amaze me what the power of paint can do, especially the easy spray kind! {I will show pictures of it painted in just a minute. First, I need to show you the art that I decided to make to “go inside” the frame 馃檪
I love initials. Simple. I just do. I especially love them in Eden’s room. Not sure why so much in there, but I do. So, it made perfect sense to frame a large E! I went to my favorite store, Hobby Lobby to buy my letter. {I swear I should get a frequent shopper discount.} They were $12.99, and I used my 40% off coupon, making my total $7.79. If you remember my Spanish moss letter, this is the exact same one. It is just a natural, unpainted wood, and they are 18″tall.
I spray painted it white. (simple white, semi gloss spray paint)
After the paint dried, I took washi tape and taped off lines to make my stripes.
{Honestly, this look is kinda cute too!}
I then took my purple paint and painted all of the white area that was still showing.
When this dried {after another coat was applied!}, I took the washi tape off. It comes off sooo easy. I love this stuff.
I then took it to her little work-in-progress room! There is a blank wall right as you walk into her room聽that needed something. This takes up a lot of space and makes a super cute statement. It won’t be the only thing on the wall in the end, but for now…it is looking so cute {and what about that auction frame?!}.
The lines were so smooth. I was kind of amazed at how straight they were, with hardly any bleeding!
This is the view right when you walk in her door. There is a dresser directly under it that needs to be re-done. It was a booth mall find, and it was already “done”, just not the way I want it. I plan to start working on it this week, but we will see how that goes!
So, to sum things up…I did both of these projects for under $15. Grant it, I got lucky with my frame, but if you keep your eyes open, you will come across one. Don’t worry what it looks like at the time. Spray paint is your FRIEND!
Everything will look so much better when this area all comes together, but I just can’t help but show things as I go along 馃檪

must say – that frame was beautiful before… not sure I could have painted that one. I probably would have decorated a room around it 馃檪 But everything you do is lovely too 馃檪

Haha thanks! It definitely didn’t go with her brightly colored room! It really doesn’t go with any of my decor. It was pretty though, for the right home. Luckily we have like $5 for it, so I didn’t mind painting it! Thank you 馃檪
