Have you ever had a specific color or style in mind, and you struggled to find a decorative pillow to match? Today, I have a super simple and EASY way to create a pillow with your OWN design! Pillow covers are a cost efficient way to change up your home décor for the season or holiday!
For this project, you will need the following supplies:
– (6) Fabric strips – 1.5” x 48”
– Several fabric scraps of various sizes
– Assorted trims, ribbons or buttons
– Pillow cover – mine came from Hobby Lobby for $3.99
– Scissors
– Fabric glue or hot glue gun
This project was so fun, and you literally cannot mess it up!
First, I’m going to show you how to make a rolled flower. Like the name says, you simply twist and roll the fabric to create a flower.
I started by folding my ribbon down length wise and start rolling. This creates the center of the flower. I apply a little hot glue once I have established the center.
Next, you will start to twist or turn down the fabric as you roll it around the center. Apply a dab of hot glue after every couple of turns to keep the flower secure.
Do not worry if the frayed side ends up on top as you twist and roll. I love the look of the frayed flower!
Keep rolling and twisting until you have a couple of inches of fabric left on your strip.
Add some hot glue to secure it, leaving the excess fabric attached. Turn your flower over and apply hot glue to the bottom of the flower.
Then, pull the excess fabric over the glue to create a “bottom” for the flower. Trim any excess fabric.
Repeat this process with the other strips of fabric. The tighter you roll the fabric, the smaller the flower will be. In turn, you can roll it loosely and have a larger flower.
Next, take your fabric scraps and cut out flower petals, circles, leaves, or any shape you would like. I cut some petals, and I also overlapped some fabric to create a ruffle like leaf.
Then, I laid out my petals and flowers on the pillow cover to create my design.
Once I was happy with the placement, I started to glue everything down with my all purpose fabric glue. You could definitely use hot glue as well.
Finally, I added a few finishing touches with some pom pom trim and fringe! How adorable did this turn out?!!
Seriously, this was so easy and FUN! I can imagine adding buttons and other embellishments too!
This will be perfect for a pop of color this Spring! What colors would YOU use? The trims and rolled flowers add so much dimension!

I love this pillow cover! The flowers are so pretty and fun and I really want to try making them!!! It turned out beautifully!
Brooke, do you ever burn your fingers with the hot glue? Especially when you have to hold things together for a sec until it sticks! I’m thinking of looking for a metal thimble (or several) to wear when I’m gluing!!

Well that is the cutest and so easy!! So now I’m headed HL to find some pillow cases and make these for my precious MIL (only mom I have) and she’s going through dimentia. She LOVES flowers but allergies now keep them out of the house. She is going to love this!! Bless you, Brooke for always sharing your God given gifts!! 💝
