Stores are stocking Easter décor already, and y’all know that makes me excited! I recently hopped into the Dollar Tree and found this cute little carrot sign in the “Plus” section for $3! I saw SO much potential, and it was the only one left hanging…you know I had to get it!
You have heard me say a million times to get things EARLY so that you don’t miss out! If you try to get it when you need it, you will be too late!
For this mini makeover, I used the following supplies:
– Carrot hanging sign
– Burlap
– Spring greenery
– Apple Barrel Spiced Carrot paint
– Paintbrush (the rough chip brush worked best against the burlap)
– Ribbon
– Scissors
– Hot glue gun
The sign read “Just a Fresh Bunch,” and I didn’t care too much for the words on the carrots, so I decided to cover them up.
The first thing I did was remove the little burlap ribbon and bow. You can gently pull on the bow, and it will easily come off. Don’t toss it just yet!
Next, I cut a piece of burlap and laid it over the center carrot. Using a hot glue gun, I glued down the burlap at the top of the carrot.
Then, I trimmed the burlap around the carrot.
Using the hot glue gun, I then glue down the burlap along the edges of the carrot.
I used the same process for the side carrots. Burlap is messy, but it’s very easy to work with, because it has some give to it. You can pull it and maneuver it to fit where you need it.
Next, it was time to paint! Due to the rough texture of the burlap, you really need a more substantial brush than the foam brushes. You could, of course, make do with a foam brush, but a brush with sturdy bristles is better.
I just applied the paint directly on the burlap and made swift, heavy strokes with the paint brush.
Then, I cut off stems from the spring greenery bush and lined them up over the green painted leaves.
As I was hot gluing the stems down, they had a tendency to want to pull up, so I took small pieces of scrap burlap and pressed down over top of the hot glue. This really helped secure the stems down to the base. You can add as many stems as you want to create the desired fullness.
Okay, so now is where you can pull that original burlap ribbon and bow back out. If you want to be done at this step, you can reattach the ribbon and bow, and it will cover the stems.
I think it looks adorable with the burlap bow, but I wanted to try something a little bigger.
I gathered some ribbon I had and created a Re-Fabbed Bow! All of the ribbons I chose were purchased from the DOLLAR TREE! I was so impressed with their ribbon selection for Easter!
How adorable are the little bunnies on the ribbon?!!! The carrot ribbon is so precious and fun! I LOVE how this project turned out!
You need to RUN to the Dollar Tree and snatch this one up! Be sure to PIN FOR LATER!
