I don’t know about you, but I LOVE a beautiful farmhouse! There is something so peaceful and serene about a farmhouse sitting way out in the country, just soaking up God’s goodness.
Recently, I was asked to come look at a home. She was wanting me to give her dining and living room {a big open area} some life. I had never seen her home before, and when I pulled up- I was in love. This home was just gorgeous. It sits off the road way out in the country, and it was just the perfect farmhouse. I knew immediately I would love the inside, and I did. They have a gorgeous home. It has beautiful floors, perfect colors, custom cabinetry, etc… but when they moved in, they just kind of “landed”. That is how she put it to me, and it makes sense. They have 2 young kids and busy lives, and while they loved the home, they never got around to having the time to truly decorate it the way she wanted…so that is where I came in!
The before pics already have gorgeous bones, but it was聽just kind of bare. It was a great blank canvas! AND LOOK AT THESE FLOORS!!!! {And…don’t you love her curtains! And yay for not having to budget new ones in!}
Do you see this gorgeous farmhouse table? Her husband made it! From what she has told me, he is very handy to have around! I love this table…and her choice of chairs are spot on.
You see, I love the farmhouse style. I really do…BUT there is one problem. I love color. I mean, I really love color…so I could never “truly” go all farmhouse in my own home, without having color mixed in. The great thing about this home is that while it is a farmhouse and has a farmhouse feel- she loves color too! I 聽knew this was going to be a lot of fun, and it was!
In her kitchen, which is open to the dining/living area, she accented with some reds and aquas. I knew I wanted to tie those colors into the space, for sure…as well as others 馃檪 So, I got busy doing the fun part- SHOPPING!
**I get asked all the time where I find the accessories that I decorate with, and while I would love to tell you just one place- that is just not how I roll. I literally look any and everywhere. Check this post out to get all of my top go-to places for the best bargain home decor!**
After a few weeks of gathering the perfect items, I was ready to implement my findings. Here is their space afterwards!
In the dining area, the changes were pretty simple. I added a galvanized tray with a pitcher with some artificial flowers as well as a rustic candlestick to give the table some height, and I found this amazing corner shelving unit on Jet.com! It ended up being perfect for that space! By decorating it with colorful decor pieces, it gave it that extra flair and vibrancy to an otherwise pretty neutral space.
How cute is this owl and elephant?! These kinds of things are lucky to make it to the client’s house! 馃檪 I found them at Gordman’s, and if you haven’t been there- you are missing out on decor GOODNESS!
Now onto the living area!
In this room, I wanted to add color with the addition of beautiful throw pillows and a vibrant rug. I loved the rug so much, and it tied in all of the colors from the dining room, as well as the accent colors that she had used in her kitchen {sorry, I didn’t take any pictures in there- but it is beautiful!}. I wanted to also keep with the farmhouse feel, since after all- this IS a farmhouse, so I got this awesome woven straw wall piece that I thought was PERFECT for this room.
I had a really hard time getting a good picture of these, but I thought they were so cute! They are paper flower art from Target. They came as a set of 3, and I thought they went perfectly with the look of their home!
I have to say- I absolutely loved this transformation {and the homeowners did too- which is truly ALL that matters!}. I think this home goes to show that you can still have a beautiful farmhouse with color too- and that to me, is the absolute perfect combination!

Hi Brooke you have certainly bought more ‘life’ into the house – it looks loads better. Great job – love the ornaments and the rug you purchased 馃檪
The only ‘slightly’ negative I would add is the curtains. What I can’t understand is why people don’t really make the best of such beautiful windows? When hanging curtains I always say to have your rail at least 6 inches either side of the window reveal, which instantly make the windows look wider. Also when buying curtains – the curtains should be at least twice the width or even 3 times the width of the rail that is being used. It gives so much more gathering in the curtains that also make them look more luxurious and when using tie backs makes them look more ‘dressed’ and gives more light. I think ‘Window Dressing’ is most important in Interior Design. Hope you don’t mind me saying 馃檪
