Every now and then you just come across a deal too good to pass up. This was one of those deals. I was looking on a local Facebook classifieds page (like I needed more projects!), and I came across an ad for these 2 beauties:
I say beauty somewhat lightly. They are actually both very nice pieces. Sure, they are outdated and a little banged up…but in all honesty, I wouldn’t have wanted them if they weren’t. And, for the best part- wait for it…they were just $15.00. FOR THE PAIR. {I did actually ask the seller if she really meant for the pair! Seemed too good to be true.} Well, obviously there was no passing them up, although they were 25 minutes away, and I really didn’t have the time to be going to get them! I told her I could get them the next day, if she was willing to hold them…and she said sure. I don’t like to hold stuff for people because, let’s face it- half the people are no shows…but I was glad she did for me 馃檪
The next day rolled around and I was headed to get them! The seller sent me a text message telling me she wouldn’t be there, so she would leave them on the front porch and I could leave a check under her flower pot. This lady was so trusting of me! So…I did and the rest is soon to be history!
I let them sit in the garage for a while. I just couldn’t find the time to get to them. FINALLY, I decided to bring them in because they would be “quick projects.” I seriously have no idea when I will stop saying stuff like that. Everytime I think something will be easy, it is always the complete opposite. No different for this project! The bench…well, it was a breeze. {I give a complete tutorial on covering a bench in a previous post, so I won’t go into it in this one.} The table…another story.
What appears to be a very straight forward table turned out to be a boogar. It wasn’t the table’s fault…but MAN. First of all, I ran out of paint, of course. Story of my life. Then, I spray painted all of these pretty handles and lost a couple of the pieces in the process. I mean it, nowhere to be found. They aren’t pieces that I can replace…so, I had to throw them out. No use to me now! So, I went to Lowes and got new handles, and I thought…finally! I will get these on, take pictures and be DONE. Wrong answer. Handles did not fit. For some reason, the handles were made specifically for this piece (I guess), and all of the standard handles would not fit. My handy hubby drilled holes to make the ones I bought fit. Thank God. I was about ready to scream out in frustration. What should have been a 1 day project turned into a week!
But, alas….it is finished, and I am very happy with the way it turned out!
I had found the fabric at Hobby Lobby, and fell in LOVE. I love the bold colors and the paisley print, and聽I knew I wanted the table to reflect that same look. I has some Poppy colored Vintage Market & Design chalk paint already on hand, and it matched the fabric perfectly! For the aqua, I used Agave by Waverly {you can find at Wal-mart}. I already had this too…and it matched perfectly as well! Like I said, I had originally spray painted the original hardware white…but since that didn’t go as planned- I found these pretty handles at Lowes. I actually like the dark against that light aqua…so I am happy with it!
Don’t you love the fabric? Right up my alley!
I can truly say one thing…the more pieces I “re-fab”, the more I realize that nothing is ever as easy and or quick as it seems at the beginning! It definitely makes me appreciate a pretty, finished project that much more 馃檪

Your two pieces look great. I love the fabric and probably would have chosen it too! Good job and to think that you only paid $15 for this great looking table and stool.

Denise Hardy says
This is beautiful – love the fabric and the colours you have used – I wish we had a great fabric store either in Ireland or Spain (at the moment I live between the two Countries – although in April next year will be here in Spain permanently ) so wish Hobby Lobby would come to Spain. Do you mind having a word with them to open a shop in Spain? lol
Brooke Riley says
Thank you, Denise! That fabric caught my eye right away!! You can order online, but I am not sure if they ship overseas? I would assume they would?
Denise Hardy says
Thanks Brooke – I went onto Hobby Lobby’s website – they do ship internationally but not on the internet – you have to ring them up and then all depending on what you order there are very high shipping charges 馃檨 That’s the trouble ordering stuff from the US – high shipping charges – not sure why they’re so high? Thanks anyway 馃檪
Brooke Riley says
I hate that it is so high to ship over there! I really don’t know why it would be either? You are very welcome! I hope you find a great fabric store closer to where you are!
Donna Wilkes says
The choice of paint color and handles totally changed the outdated style of the table and bench. Great transformation. Loving, pinning, and sharing.
Brooke Riley says
Thanks so much, Donna! I appreciate that very much! 馃檪

Hi Brooke! You’ve got my painting juices flowing again! Did you wax after painting? And where can I find Vintage Market?
I love love love what you guys have done with your foreclosure house! If I were 20 years younger I’d buy one and refab it too!
Looking forward to the grand reveal when you are all done…you know, that’s when you’ll move, right? ?
God bless you and your family…and he is a hunk…love the tattoos.
Brooke Riley says
Hey Donna! I am so glad to get your painting juices flowing! 馃檪 馃檪 you can find Vintage Market on their website (I have a link in my sidebar on the home page…and it will take you there! ) I am actually in the process of becoming a retailer for them, and when that comes into effect, I will be able to sell on my own site~so be on the lookout!
Thanks so much for the compliment on our home. I am proud of the work we have done, and I am happy to share it with everyone! I hope I can finally get all the other rooms completely done so that I can show them.
And thanks, I think he is a hunk too 馃槈 He will love your compliment on his tatoos.
Brooke Riley says
And I forgot to answer this…I did not wax this specific piece. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don’t, depending.
Susan says
You had such vision. I would never have been able to see how lovely that boring old table turned out. Now I”ll be looking for one of my own so I can totally copy your table. Pinning now.
Brooke Riley says
Aw thank you so much, Susan! I wish I could find another one to work on too!
Linda says
Wow, wow and wow.
That is really cute.
